2006 Certification

Certification was held in Newton, KS, from October 8th -12th with seventeen K-9 teams in attendance.

A big thanks goes out to J.B. Thompson and Tony Hawpe, Newton PD, for hosting certification and their hard work securing facilities. Both spent lots of time “behind the scenes” prior to and during the certification making certification successful.  Also, a big thanks goes out to Newton Police Chief, Jim Daily, for supporting HAPDA. It was nice seeing a boss come to certification and take interest in his K-9 officers. Chief Daily also gave up one of his detectives, Det. Mike Yoder, for the entire certification time to act as a helper. Mike did an excellent job and never complained about the late hours, being cold and wet, hiding in trash trucks, and generally being abused.

 Thanks

Craig Richardson, Spetsnaz K-9, got a hold of some and donated some excellent door prizes for this years raffle. The raffle generated several hundred dollars for HAPDA due to the excellent prizes Craig had sent.

Nelson Rivera and Chris Farris for doing an excellent job judging certification. Nelson is very unselfish with his time and talents and HAPDA owes a great deal to him.  Even though he is retired, he is still getting “bad guys” off the streets. Chris is retired from Salina PD with three dogs under his belt and has been working dogs longer than most of us have been cops.  We plan to lean on his knowledge in the future.  Both judges donated their time to HAPDA and charged minimal expenses.

Congratulations
