2007 Certification

The Geary County Sheriff’s Office hosted the HAPDA 2007 certification in Junction City and it was the smoothest certification ever.  In fact, it was so smooth we even got to eat at normal times and the only certification problems we had were trying to figure out where we were going to eat. A BIG thanks goes out to Nelson Rivera for securing the training sites, being the back bone of HAPDA, and getting our second judge, Kirby Brelsford.  Another reason certification went so smooth was due to Rick Daniels.  Rick lives in Texas, volunteered his time, and was a dedicated helper.  Everyone saw Rick catching dogs for us, but he also got up early in the morning, stayed late at night, and did the little things that we all take for granted. Without Rick, we would have noticed an entirely different certification. Another big thanks goes out to Kevin Hawes as he got with Quantico Arms, a Junction City store, and had a new .45 ACP handgun donated for the raffle.  Next time you are in Junction City, stop by Quantico Arms, visit with them, and tell them thanks for their support. Trish Giradano, JCPD officer, came through and got us an excellent banquet meal cheap.  Several member brought items they donated or got donated and the raffle table was full.  Due to everyone’s hard work, the raffle was the biggest ever and we were able to pay most certification expenses in cash.

Judge Kirby Brelsford

We were blessed to have Kirby Brelsford, Caldwell County Mo, Sheriff, assist us with this years judging. Kirby has been handling and dealing with dogs longer than most of us have been in law enforcement and the knowledge he passed on to us was of great help.  The insight he gave to everyone and the association was invaluable. Not only was Kirby fun and fair to be around on the field, he was also fun to hang out with and visit with during evening refreshments.  In short, we are excited that we have made a new friend and we are looking forward to working with Kirby in the future and invited him to help us with 2008’s certification

Congratulations

Detector Dog Case of the Year

Kevin Hawes and Figo located 20 lbs of Methamphetamine concealed in a fuel tank. After a joint investigation with the DEA, the suspect rolled, and the information was useful in a large Methamphetamine ring in Kansas City.

Patrol Dog Case of the Year

J.B. Thompson and Aron appended two Methamphetamine cooks after a car chase.  One of the suspects tried to fight Aron off, however Aron stayed with the fight and both suspects are serving some extended time.
